Making moves.

For a few months now I have felt that change is in the air, and I’m finally ready to follow where the winds are leading.

My first public exhibition of photography wrapped up in March this year. Seeing my work printed and displayed alongside the works of other emerging Calgary photographers was an energizing experience. A big surprise followed with the award ceremony: I am excited to announce that my contribution to the 2022 Exposure Photography Festival Emerging Photographers Showcase won the 2022 Shutter Hub Emerging Photographer Award. The recognition has been amazing and humbling, but by far the best part of winning this award has been the inclusion in - and mentoring by - the Shutter Hub community. In particular, I owe a special thanks to Shutter Hub Creative Director Karen Harvey for helping me open my eyes to a world of creative potential that I have been unsure of my place in until now.

So I’m making moves…

Balancing the divergent demands of my existing commercial and emergent fine art practices has been taking a toll. A big component of the change I’ve been contemplating has its origin in these twofold pressures competing for limited time and creative energy. I’ve decided that the ratio of effort and time which until now has been largely skewed towards the commercial side of things is due for a recalibration: one that favours this new, emergent fine art photographic practice based on the street photography I’ve been creating for the last two years.

Part and parcel to this redirection of my creative energies, here are some new ventures I am undertaking presently:

  • I am launching a weekly email newsletter, and the plan is for the first edition to send to subscribers next week. Weekly editions will include a Photo of the Week feature with an exclusive look behind the scenes of the photograph - along with other content, including details about upcoming print drops and exhibitions. Photos of the Week will be images I have taken that week, so the plan is for this newsletter to live and grow as I walk this new path. To subscribe for free, simply drop your email address into the footer of my site below.

  • I am narrowing down my search for a local print partner, and will begin offering monthly limited edition print drops this summer. Tentatively the plan is to offer 8”x12” unmounted prints for these runs, in strict batches (or “editions”), and preorder priority will be given to newsletter subscribers. All prints will be signed and numbered.

  • I am overhauling my approach to social media, and will be posting more interactive and behind the scenes content to invite you out onto the streets with me. If you don’t follow me on Instagram already, I invite you to do so by following the social link in the footer of my site below.

I would love for you to join me as I continue exploring the world photographically!
